Professional Headshots: Don't Rush and 5 Tips for Feeling Comfortable

Headshots can be nerve-wracking for many people. Whether it's feeling self-conscious about your appearance or not knowing how to pose, it can be difficult to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Many clients have told me that getting their headshot is like going to the dentist. But at Lisa Payne Photography, I believe that a comfortable subject leads to natural, authentic, and confident headshots. That's why I take the time to understand my clients' concerns and create a relaxed and stress-free atmosphere. I also guide how to pose and express themselves in front of the camera.

Make it stand out

However, I do know that being in front of the camera can be a daunting experience. Here are five tips to help you prepare for your headshot session:

1. Give your photographer as much information on you and your branding as possible. This will help them understand what you want to achieve, your branding, your setting and what you would like to achieve from the session.

2. Don't rush the photos. While some people are very relaxed in front of the camera, most people aren't. They need a friendly face to feel at ease and to be talked to and guided. This takes time, and we are not all performing monkeys!

3. Make sure your clothes fit correctly and are not too busy. If you are capturing your team, decide on a few colours or outfits that you would like to stick to. Your photographer should be able to guide you.

4. Drink lots of water in the lead-up to your shoot. Your skin will thank you!

5. There is never the right time to have your photo done. Being too young, too old, too fat, or too thin… are not reasons. Don't put it off any longer, and reach out to us today to schedule your headshot session.
